Just about the Erie Canal Time

We are going to lighten up a bit:

An old sea captain was sitting on a beach near the wharf when a young man walked up and sat down.  The young man had spiked hair and each spike was a different color … green, red, orange, blue, and yellow.  After a while the young man noticed that the captain was staring at him.  “What’s the matter old timer, never done anything wild in your life?”

The old man replied, “Got drunk and married a parrot.  I was just wondering if you were my son!”

OK so onto the travels.  We left Erie PA at 6:30 in the morning, yup early.  As we were leaving the harbor we realized all the people watching us yesterday had left and we had a different audience today.  It mad us smile.

Our audience when we left Erie PA

Bigger audience leaving the Erie Harbor but less impressive

Then when we started out we realized it was Sunday morning and how fortunate we are.  We realized we were in God’s Cathedral under his roof.

The sun was shining through the clouds, what beautiful rays of sunshine. Sorry the photo does not do it justice.

Our plan was to stop at Dunkirk, PA but when we were calling the marina’s the water was not deep enough for our 6 foot draft.  We decided to just keep going and we could reach Buffalo NY and be done with Lake Erie.  So we kept going and after 12 hours and 72 miles later (long day) we arrived at Buffalo, NY.  This puts us just 11 miles from Tonawanda, NY were we will enter the Erie Canal.  The next leg of our journey.  We have traversed 3 of the Great Lakes, Superior, Huron, and Erie.  We will not be entering Ontario and we were in Michigan last year when we purchased Adventure and sailed it to Minnesota.

The Buffalo,NY skyline from Adventure

For the second largest city in NY the Light House was not so impressive.

Buffalo Harbor Light House entering the harbor. Looks a little neglected compared to many of the others.

After telling you the other day how they are “TOW” boats, as we were setting the anchor a tow boat came by and was “PUSHING”.  I’m confused also?

Today will be a busy day.  We have to find a place to get supplies, maps, groceries, diesel, and determine were we will have the mast taken down and how much of it we can do.
